Mark Begich is the mayor of Anchorage, the biggest city in Alaska. He is the first mayor of the city who was born there, and is the son of Alaska's third congressman, Nick Begich. Begich's parents first came to the state in 1957 as teachers. After serving as the superintendent of military schools at Fort Richardson, Nick was elected to the state senate and then the US House of Representatives. While campaigning for reelection in 1972, Nick's plane disappeared over the Gulf of Alaska. Mark was 10 years old.

Tom Wyka is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. His calling into politics has evolved over the past several years with the gradual realization that too many of us have placed our democracy on auto-pilot, expecting someone else to pay attention to the issues. He is an activist and a DFA group leader in Morris County, where he is challenging a 14 year incumbent for the second time.

For more than 25 years, Los Lobos has been one of the most creative, dynamic, and daring bands in the American landscape. The Latino core of the group -- David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Louie PÃ©rez, and Conrad Lozano -- started out as a folklÃ³rico band in East Los Angeles playing weddings and other events in the Mexican community, but were soon swept into the creative cauldron of the late-'70s L.A. music scene, where punk, rockabilly, and experimental bands could all share the same stage.
